The following email from one of our members has been received by LOSRA and, because of the controversial nature of the proposal, it is published here:

Cattle Grazing - Sunbury Park Action Group to Hold Meeting on Saturday"As you will know a decision has been taken to introduce grazing cattle in Sunbury Park – taken without any public consultation (despite this being promised) and without ascertaining what the existing level of usage of the park is. We have been expressly told that this is not a financial decision but one aimed at promoting bio-diversity in the park.

"The park itself is an extremely important amenity to all that live in Sunbury and there is considerable opposition to the plan within the community. As such a group of us have got together and formed the Sunbury Park Action Group (SPAG) and we will be holding a meeting at the park on Saturday 1st February 2013 at 10am on the Ha Ha.

"It would be very good if you were able to attend and support us."

Kind regards,

SPAG

Great idea. Really looking forward to seeing cattle in the park.

Dog walkers in Sunbury need to learn to share public space, clean up after their dogs and most importantly keep their dogs under control.

I would certainly support a dog ban while the cows settled in.

I agree a great idea and will bring local kids closer to farm animals

I agree with the three previous comments - a wonderful idea! When my children were young we lived a short walk away from Shortwood Common in Staines, and enjoyed picnics while watching the cows. Cow dung is much easier to see and avoid than than dog mess!

This is a great idea and should be supported. Keeping dogs under control is essential in the country where cattle are present. Why should this be different? Dog owners are not the only users of the park, which can only be enhanced by a this idea.

I would rather see cattle in the park than dogs any day and children would love it.. Sunbury Park is a lovely space but sadly it's impossible to enjoy becuase it's basically a huge open air dog lavatory. You cannot walk more than 10 yards without treading in dog mess. It's disgusting. Ban the dogs and bring on the cattle I say!

I agree, it is a great idea. I hope the action group listen to people other than dog walkers. Surely the park is big enough for all animals and people to enjoy!

I think allowing cattle to graze on Sunbury park is a fantastic idea. I just don't see what the problem is. It makes more use of the park and brings nature closer to the local community.

I live backing on to the park and I for one am sick to the back teeth of myself and my young son being harassed by dogs and their often foul mouthed owners almost every time we cross the park. They seem to think they're the only ones allowed to use the park.
