SCC asks Spelthorne to sell Green Belt Land for Fire Station

The final decision on the proposed changes to the Fire Service in Spelthorne is due to be taken by the Surrey County Council Cabinet on 4 February 2013.

In advance of this decision, Surrey County Council asked to buy from Spelthorne Borough Council a piece of Green Belt land on which to build the new single Fire Station included in the proposals. 

The request was due to be discussed by the Spelthorne Cabinet on 17 December (click here to read the Agenda item). This item has, however, now been removed from the Agenda.

    The 3rd paragraph is what is, I believe, known in common parlance as 'a bit previous'. How SBC could have agreed to sell the land to SCC before they had even taken the decision to dispense with the two existing fire stations in favour of a single smaller one is puzzling, especially since they supposedly oppose closing the two stations. If they are that opposed, they should refuse to sell the land, irrespective of the outcome of the eventual decision on 4th February. It will be interesting to see just how opposed they prove to be...
