The AGM on the 20th June attracted a full house and attendees were urged to complete their responses to the consultation on the Issues and Options for the Local Plan following a very helpful presentation by Ann Biggs, the Strategic Planning Manager for Spelthorne and Geoff Dawes, the Principle Planning Officer.

If you were unable to attend and have not yet completed the consultation form we urge you to do so as the closing date is midnight tonight.

The form will only take a few minutes to complete by clicking on the link below. We have published a specimen (scroll down to article of 18th June) which was compiled after the Association had taken legal advice.

The proposed new local plan must take into account the smaller domestic planning applications that have dramatically increased over the last few years in the borough.
the current policy, the Council's 2009 Core strategy is (EN1 of the CS&P DPD) but this only talks about new larger developments, there is nothing in that whole document that specifically deals with the smaller extensions.
This is a real shame because there have been a large number of house extensions and some are almost rebuilds of existing houses. These are spoiling the surrounding areas and adjacent existing properties as there is no legislation to control what is being proposed in the way of extensions blending in with the host building and also nothing to control finishes.
Consequently properties are altered and extended without any regard to the existing properties and surrounding area. We are therefore ending up in some areas with very unsympathetic buildings totally out of character with the surrounding area and properties.
The Council's supplementary planning guidance does give some guidance but this does not go far enough and the planners are passing some awful proposals.
Please can we have some specific legislation to cover this area, as most of the 2009 plan just covered larger development.
