Welcome to the LOSRA Website

Like any local community, the policies and decisions shaping the character and future of Lower Sunbury are influenced by a combination of local and national government initiatives, alongside market forces and vested interests operating within these frameworks. As with many areas, Lower Sunbury faces challenges stemming from an aging infrastructure, rapid urban development, increasing traffic congestion, and other pressures that impact both quality of life and the distinctive character of the neighbourhood.

In collaboration with local authorities, other residents’ associations and amenity groups, LOSRA plays a vital role in addressing fundamental issues that affect its members' lives. This organisation not only engages with broader strategic concerns but also focuses on the everyday matters that shape community well-being.

Sunbury Cricket Club’s 1st X1 crowned another excellent season last weekend when, on Saturday, they beat Ashtead in the final League game of the season to secure second place in the Premier Division of the Surrey Championship, having won the title in the previous two years, and then on Sunday scored a famous victory when they beat Middlesex champions Ealing to win the Club Cricket Conference Cup Final.

On a small ground at Chingford, Sunbury batted first and, taking advantage of the short boundaries, ran up a total of 292 all out in their allotted 45 overs, with skipper John Maunders, a former county player with Leicestershire and Essex, scoring 125. So prolific were the six hits that six balls were lost in surrounding gardens.

Ealing, who came with a lofty reputation, were never in the hunt, with accurate bowling and brilliant fielding from Sunbury reducing them to 27-3 after ten overs, and they were eventually all out for 192, with Sunbury winning by 100 runs.

It was a long-awaited revenge for Sunbury’s defeat to Ealing the last time they appeared in this competition’s final a number of years ago.

The Club Cricket Conference Cup, which used to be the Evening Standard Cup, was merged this year with the Bertie Joel Cup, a mid-week knock-out competition for clubs in the London and the south-east, and, now known as The Conference Cup for The Bertie Joel Trophy, is the primary Cup Competition for clubs in London and the Home Counties.

The next music event at the Club is, of course, the inaugural SUNBURY BEER, WINE & MUSIC FESTIVAL on Saturday 16th September, which promises to be a great occasion, and which the Club hopes will become an annual fixture in the Sunbury social calendar, possibly in an expanded weekend form if it’s a success.

The Club will be presenting three bands during the day, all of them proven and popular Music Night favourites:

2pm SKELETON CREW Jug band blues, featuring Paul King from Mungo Jerry on guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica and squeezebox, Colin Pattenden from Manfred Mann’s Earth Band on bass, with Chris Bryant on guitar.

5.30pm THE MUSTANGS  High octane contemporary blues/rock from a band who played at Glastonbury this year, with Adam Norsworthy on vocals & guitar, Derek Kingaby on harmonica, Ben McKeown on bass and Jon Bartley on drums, who shares his musician life with his duties as co-leader of the Green Party. “The band no self-respecting blues festival can afford to be without” (R2 magazine)

9pm FIRE & WATER The great rock and blues singer Paul Cox returns with his rip-roaring show comprising the songs of Free, Bad Company and Led Zeppelin to close the evening, featuring among the band guitarist  Mike Summerland, who has worked over the years with Blodwyn Pig, Georgie Fame, William Bell and many others.

Tickets are £10 for the entire event, which goes from noon until midnight, and entitle you to a wristband, which gets you in and out of the event, a free souvenir pint glass and access to all the music, so it’s great value. There will be a wide selection of real ales, craft lagers and ciders, a gin bar and prosecco and wine bar, plus BBQ food and curries from 2pm.

Tickets are available in advance from the Club bar or online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/sunburysports. It makes sense to get them in advance as numbers may need to be capped during the day for safety reasons, and the club has already sold nearly 200 tickets. It’s an event that’s tailor-made for Music Night regulars, and the Club looks forward to seeing you all there.
