28th June - July Update from PC Caroline Barnes
Dear Residents,
Please find below the July Lower Sunbury Safer Neighbourhood Team update.
Here is a brief update on the work that the Lower Sunbury Safer Neighbourhood Team have been doing this month within Lower Sunbury.

Anti Social Behaviour

Patrols are continuing in Peregrine Road in relation to anti-social behaviour. Peregrine Road is still a priority area for us and regular patrols are being carried out to tackle this anti -social behaviour.

Following a licence review in relation to Peregrine Stores following a number of reports from local residents that staff in the shop were selling alcohol to under 18’s the licensing committee for Spelthorne Borough Council revoked their licence to sell alcohol. Since this has occurred the number of reports of anti social behaviour has fallen dramatically which is a great improvement. Long may it continue!

If you witness youths under 18 drinking alcohol in Peregrine Road or the surrounding area or have any further information in relation to the sale of alcohol to under 18’s by any shop in Lower Sunbury please report it to police on 0845 125 22 22. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Peregrine Road
This month I conducted an Environmental Visual Audit in Peregrine Road with the local councillors and the Chairman of the Lower Sunbury Residents Association. These are conducted to highlight issues in a certain area and then for us to work together to try and resolve the issues raised.

As a result of this audit graffiti and litter were the top two issues highlighted and in an attempt to tackle these issues the Safer Neighbourhood Team plan to hold a Community Action Day on Saturday 13th September 2008 from 10am – 4pm to incorporate a litter pick, graffiti clean up and we will be on hand to answer any questions residents may have for us as well as offer crime prevention advice. If you are interested in becoming involved in this day please do not hesitate to contact me.

Community Speedwatch
The Community Speedwatch Team in Lower Sunbury are continuing to work hard to report speeding vehicles to casualty reduction officer PC Mick Pritchard. Another training session was held on Wednesday 28th May 2008 with a further seven residents being trained to use the speed equipment.

This is a brilliant way of slowing drivers down in Lower Sunbury and in helping to reduce the risk of an accident occurring.
Please contact us if you would like further information on this scheme.

Burglaries/Autocrime
I am pleased to report that Burglaries and Autocrime offences have remained low in Lower Sunbury this month.
I do however ask that all residents continue to remain vigilant and take responsibility for the security of their property and belongings.

Please do not leave items on display in your vehicles and if you have a Sat Nav please make sure that you wipe the marks from the windscreen left by the holder of the Sat Nav, as this is an indication to thieves that there may be a Sat Nav in the glove compartment.

Please make sure that you have heavy duty locks on both your front and back doors and make use of door chains if available to you. Also security lighting is a good deterrent and it also alerts you if someone is approaching your property.

Please be aware of people posing as a salesman for a company in order to gain access to properties. If you do have someone knock on your door stating for example that you have tiles missing from your roof that need to be fixed, ask for identification and if you deem it necessary ring the company they are claiming to work for in order to check if they have people canvassing in the area at that time. If you deem it suspicious in any way please ring Surrey Police on 0845 125 22 22 with descriptions of all persons involved.

If you would like any further crime prevention information please do not hesitate to contact the Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Speed in The Avenue – We continue to monitor this issue with traffic officers conducting regular patrols in the road as well as the Community Speedwatch Team setting up regularly in the road.

Parking in Green St/Nursery Rd – We have continued to patrol this area at school open and close times issuing warning notices to vehicles parked in an obstructive way. I have been in contact with the Parking Enforcement Department at Spelthorne Borough Council to discuss their team conducting increased patrols in the area which they have agreed to do when possible.

Letters have been delivered to all the schools in Green Street and Nursery Road advising parents and drivers of the consequences of parking their vehicles in an obstructive manner and I am pleased to say that this issue has improved slightly.

Lime Crescent – We have received reports of youths playing football on the green area of Lime Crescent and whilst doing so are kicking the ball against residents properties and vehicles causing residents concern. We will be patrolling this area to ensure that the youths are playing football with care and advising parents should we feel it appropriate.

Suspicious female – Recently I have received a number of reports relating to a female approaching members of the public in the area of Nursery Road and Peregrine Road, Sunbury, asking for money.

The woman uses a number of stories, one of the stories being that her mother is sick in hospital and she has run out of petrol and needs money to get there.
The woman claims she will get in touch with them to pay back the money but she never does.

The woman is described as white, 19 to 20-years old, 5ft 9, slim build and shoulder length blonde hair.

I would like to warn members of the public who are approached by this woman not to give her money. Instead please report any incidents to Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
