Welcome to the LOSRA Website
As we enter the new decade, LOSRA finds itself facing some of the most formidable challenges since its foundation 42 years ago. If we are to succeed in meeting these challenges, it is imperative that our funding is adequate for the tasks ahead. Subscribing members form only a fraction of the Lower Sunbury community though we have never provided a lesser service to those who are not members or have never subscribed. As with previous years, subscriptions for 2010 are payable on 1st January and it couldn't be easier: just click on the Subscribe button below and pay safely and securely online via PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to pay via PayPal, all major credit/debit cards are accepted.

The BBC Wants You to Participate in Forthcoming Series, Rip Off Britain
Friday, 30 July 2010 14:35
The following email has been received from Katie Cooksey at the BBC:
I am a researcher for a new series of BBC1's Rip Off Britain (with Gloria Hunniford, Angela Rippon and Jennie Bond) and I am looking for people to get in touch and tell me about problems they have had with companies/services. I am looking in particular for people who are not camera shy and who have the paperwork/evidence to back up their claim.
Problems I am looking into at the moment include:
- Water bills
- Funeral costs
- Utility bills
- The cost of directory inquiry eg 188 phone numbers
- Problems with online supermarket deliveries (food close to sell-by date etc)
- Weekly payment stores eg BrighHouse - APR and service cover costs
- Private Medical Insurance
- People who have bought "HD Ready" TVs without realising they will need to buy extra equipment to actually get HD.
- Insurance
- Banks
- Car problems…
And many more.
If you could pass this email round your members that would be great. They can reply to the email with their phone numbers and I will get in touch, or I can be contacted on 0161 2443976.
Many thanks
Katie Cooksey

Ownership of Hawke Park Finally Passes to Our Local Council
Tuesday, 27 July 2010 12:05
At Full Council on 22nd July, the Leader of the Council, Cllr. John Packman, made the following announcement: “After many years of negotiation with the County Council I now have great pleasure in announcing that the purchase of the land known as the old TP26 relief road has now been completed.
Plans for a cycle path through the land can now be progressed which will provide an increased use of the space that can be enjoyed by the residents of Sunbury for many years to come.”
This announcement is great news and finally brings to a close, a protracted negotiation which has hampered the progress of plans for Hawke Park.

Come to an Evening of Comedy Shorts This Friday
Monday, 19 July 2010 07:43
As part of the SSAA Festival, an evening of 'Comedy Shorts' will be staged on Friday 23rd July at The Riverside Arts Centre. This event will feature over 20 hard working and talented local performers, from The Manor Players and Shepperton Players, most of whom are long-time Lower Sunbury residents, including Ken Busby, Patricia Williamson and Eric Champion. There are also lots of younger local favourites.
The five comedy plays feature some of this area's favourite performers, including four of the most experienced in the Borough, plus three debutants who would really appreciate your encouragement. Material will suit an age range from 16 to 88! Some of the material is a wee bit risque, but nothing offensive. All of the comedy plays have been written by Lower Sunbury resident Geoff Buckingham, who has won a number of awards in the past year.
By coming to this Event you will be supporting our local arts and helping several worthy causes. Tickets are just £8 each and may be obtained by contacting Christine Norgate at the Booking Office on 01932 782788. The evening starts at 7.30pm with live music from local singer Janna Bond. Please book early!
28, Harfield Road "Garden Grab" Dismissed on Appeal
Monday, 19 July 2010 07:40
The Planning Inspectorate has upheld the Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for the erection of a detached four bed dwelling to the rear of 28 Harfield Road. The Inspector agreed with the Council that the new house would be at odds with the character of the surrounding area, and would damage the sylvan character of the area. In addition, the scheme would be damaging to the amenities of the Green Belt to the rear and harm the living conditions of neighbouring properties.
The Council also wrote to the Planning Inspectorate in light of new government guidance about garden land, stating that the development was no longer acceptable in principle. The Inspector agreed and concluded that “The change in policy means that the site as garden land is not longer regarded as being a priority for development.”
Neighbours who led the campaign against this inappropriate development are grateful to all those residents who wrote in with their objections.
