Welcome to the LOSRA Website

As we enter the new decade, LOSRA finds itself facing some of the most formidable challenges since its foundation 42 years ago. If we are to succeed in meeting these challenges, it is imperative that our funding is adequate for the tasks ahead. Subscribing members form only a fraction of the Lower Sunbury community though we have never provided a lesser service to those who are not members or have never subscribed. As with previous years, subscriptions for 2010 are payable on 1st January and it couldn't be easier: just click on the Subscribe button below and pay safely and securely online via PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to pay via PayPal, all major credit/debit cards are accepted.

'Eco Park' - Public Meeting 17th March - a Chance to Have Your Questions Answered

E-mail Print PDF

Surrey Eco ParkPlans for the installation of an 'Eco Park' at Charlton Lane, Sunbury, have recently been publiished in the local press. We are yet to be persuaded that Charlton Lane is the most appropriate site, and we understand that there is some reluctance to publish the Management Consultants' report which claims that Charlton is indeed the best location.

The plans, which seem to have been assembled in great haste, propose a massive industrial development which raises a number of serious concerns, for example, about the number of heavy vehicle movements in the area; and how these plans will fit in with future intentions for mineral extraction.

To answer these questions and any other concerns which residents may have, Cllr. Lynne Hack of Surrey County Council has accepted an invitation from LOSRA to make a presentation to residents on Wednesday 17th March at 7pm at The Arts Centre, Thames Street.

It would be a mistake to assume that this development will have little impact on Lower Sunbury residents as the implications will have a wide geographical spread and has the potential to touch all of us. You are urged to attend.

Crime Alert from PC Barnes

E-mail Print PDF

Crime alertPC Caroline Barnes has issued the following crime alert to all residents, together with advice on how you, or an elderly relative or friend can avoid falling victim to a vile crime such as this.

Dear Resident

On Saturday 27th February 2010 an elderly resident who lives in Lower Sunbury, who lives alone, had a bogus caller knock at the door. The caller was a well-spoken and well-dressed man in his 40’s, who gained entry to the house on the pretext of collecting some books. Once in the house he brazenly went around the house, opening drawers and cupboards and left with a number of items, including jewellery.

As you can imagine the resident was very upset by the experience.

In an effort to try to prevent this from happening again to another resident we would ask that you read and act on the following crime prevention advice:

Crime prevention advice: Distraction burglars

Surrey Police is working hard to make the elderly and vulnerable aware of the methods used by distraction burglars and bogus callers. Residents can help by following a few simple rules to avoid becoming a victim of distraction burglary.

LOCK:

  • Keep your front and back doors locked, even when at home.

STOP:

  • Before you answer, stop and think if you are expecting anyone.
  • Check that you have locked any back doors and taken the key out.
  • Look through the spyhole or the window to see who it is.

CHAIN:

  • If you decide to open the door, put the chain or bar on first.
  • Keep the bar or chain on while you are talking to the person on the doorstep. (Normally, when the door is shut and locked, leave the bar or chain off in case you need to get out in an emergency)

CHECK:

  • If someone who looks official calls at your door, always do the following:
  • Ask for and carefully check their identity card, even if they have a prearranged appointment - all genuine callers will carry one.
  • Close the door while you do this.
  • heck the caller matches the photo on the card and, if it is a prearranged appointment, their name is the same as the one on the letter.
  • Look up the company phone number in the phone book or call directory enquiries and check it against the card the caller has given you.
  • Do not ring the number on the card as it may be a fake.

IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS, KEEP THEM OUT

  • If you have any doubts about the caller tell them to call back later when someone can be with you or to contact you by letter to arrange a more convenient time.

If you wish to discuss your personal crime prevention needs then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Lower Sunbury Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Please share this email with your family, friends and neighbours to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the above advice.

Kind Regards

PC Caroline Barnes 3885
